Dr. Yasushi Ohkawa is an associate senior researcher in the research and development directorate of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). He received a doctoral degree of engineering from Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Technology in 2001 on the study on performance improvement of an ion thruster. After the graduation, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher in Kyushu Institute of Technology and the National Aerospace Laboratory. From 2005, Dr. Ohkawa has been working in JAXA. His current research areas are electrodynamic tethers for active orbital debris removal, cathode technologies such as field emission cathodes and hollow cathodes, and ion thrusters.
